The History of AMG®
With a desire to create speed, founders Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher spent their spare time building the SE racing engine in the 1960s. The rest is history:
In 1965, a colleague used their engine in his race at the German Touring Car Championship and won 10 times.
In 1967, the men founded their own company dedicated to creating racing engines, and the AMG® engine was born.
Over the years, the AMG® engine was placed into more Mercedes-Benz models, and the company grew from a two-man operation into a mid-size company.
In 1984, AMG® solely became an engine manufacturer when Melcher developed an independent cylinder head engine.
In 1993, the company unveiled the Mercedes-Benz C 36 AMG®, the first joint vehicle between the new Mercedes-Benz company and AMG®.
Today’s Mercedes-Benz AMG® Lineup
What separates the AMG® lineup from other performance vehicles is that the AMG® engine is available for coupe, sedan, convertible, and SUV models, giving Beckley drivers plenty to choose from in order to find exactly what they want with Mercedes-Benz performance.
